The British Horse Society requests that equestrians, including horse riders and carriage drivers, are explicitly considered in the Local Plan, development proposals and active travel infrastructure. It seeks protection and improvement of equestrian rights of way and calls for multi-user routes, crossings, road improvements and access controls to accommodate horses alongside pedestrians and cyclists. The Society highlights road safety, accessibility, health, wellbeing and economic benefits associated with equestrian activity and identifies gaps in the existing network. It requests consultation where development affects equestrian access and advocates improved connectivity, appropriate surfaces, signage, horsebox parking and inclusion of equestrian routes in strategic planning.
