This consultation has not been widely advertised and requires a degree of IT literacy. What focus groups and other forms of consultation have been conducted within the local communities. Has this scoping exercise been widely distributed via parish councils

The new Local Plan should place greater emphasis on protecting open countryside and Green Belt land, prioritising brownfield development, supporting nature recovery and ensuring that growth is directed towards locations with existing infrastructure and sustainable transport options. In my view, environmental protection should be given equal weight to housing delivery rather than being treated as a constraint that can be overridden by housing targets. Neighbourhood plans should be adhered to wherever possible.

• Cheshire East should go beyond minimum biodiversity requirements.
• Wildlife corridors and habitat connectivity should be protected.
• Loss of biodiversity should be treated as a key planning issue.

Cheshire East should consider of environmental impact is actually considered, so these are not desktop assessments but based on an understanding of the biodiversity within a given area.

Green belt and open countryside should be protected as far as possible. The UK is ranked amongst the most nature depleted countries globally. This severely impacts climate change and depletion of ecosystems (woodland, green spaces) strips away natural defenses against climate change. new housing is required but the focus should be on brownfield sites, and in rejuvenating town centres and areas where there is infrastructure that supports sustainable development.

The current plan has planning tiers which is very helpful. Open countryside (e.g tier 4) should be protected wherever possible to provide green gaps, prevent urban sprawl and to provide some mitigation against climate change.

Given the rural nature of some of Cheshire and the need for the UK to take climate change seriously Cheshire East should be bold in their vision and objectives. • Housing growth should only occur where roads, schools, healthcare and public transport are available or can realistically be provided.
