Such green gaps must be applied fairly across the borough. Crewe is not a special case. In the north the spread and sprawl of Manchester & Stockport is bringing housing to the edge of CE. If CE then allows green belt to taken and continues the encroachment into the countryside there will be no differentiation between urban Greater Manchester and rural Cheshire. Everyone will lose, those who live in the countryside are sucked into towns, those in towns lose their chance to have quality time in a rural setting. If greenbelt shrinks then apply green gaps to compensate.

As demonstrated in the recent campaign to stop Adlington new town green belt is a vital concept that cannot just be pushed aside to suit developers/council whims. Once lost is can never be recovered, the loss of habitat, wild life and separation of built up areas is gone forever.
Though we are told 'brownfield first' there appears to be little incentive to use these sites when easy, cheap, building on fields is made available. Grey belt is a convenient category vague enough to allow land to be neglected to qualify. Inspectors seem to be inconsistent with their classifications.
