Wilmslow Town Council recognises the importance of trees in providing shade, amongst other benefits, during very hot weather. Trees along roads should be encouraged, supported and renewed. The planting of climate change resistant trees should be encouraged on all developments.

The Local Plan should recognise the high value of peat bogs for their ability to capture carbon. Developments on deep peat >.30cm not being permitted. WNP Policy TH2 recognises the Lindow Moss Historic and Cultural Landscape. The Lindow Landscape Partnership has been instrumental in developing and implementing recovery and conservation measures. Wilmslow Town Council believe Lindow Bog and surrounding landscape should be protected to contribute to achieving carbon reduction targets. The surrounding landscape is part of the hydrological system, a crucial element of the health of an active bog area. A defendable buffer zone will be required.

Wilmslow Neighbourhood Plan policy TH2 defines the Lindow Moss Historic and Cultural Landscape. Despite this there have been a number of developments which have harmed the area. Greater weight must be given to this policy, particularly considering the impact of cumulative multiple developments.

Wilmslow Town Council has undertaken exercises to develop new conservation areas at Highfield Estate and Dean Row, however Cheshire East Council has informed Wilmslow Town Council that it has no resource, nor is it likely have any, to progress these. As things stand this policy will be sterile. This is an action for urgent attention by Cheshire East Council in advance of the new Local Plan.
