Wilmslow Town Council believes that the gap between Wilmslow and Alderley Edge should be designated a strategic green gap. The Chonar landscape is defined in the Landscape Character Assessment, a supporting document to the adopted Wilmslow Neighbourhood Plan. Its development would present a serious loss of green belt creating an urban conurbation from Alderley Edge to Bury in the North. Wilmslow Town Council also maintain that Alderley Edge is, in planning terms, a town.

Wilmslow Town Council believes the Housing Needs assessment will need to be specific across the communities rather than just at County Level. Analysis of demographics reveal that young people are being driven out of Wilmslow, away from family and friends, in order to find somewhere affordable to live.

Wilmslow Neighbourhood Plan contains policies for Housing design and mix. For Wilmslow, current regulations regarding housing mix do not deliver that which Wilmslow requires in order to meet local housing need. Estates with large numbers of four, five and more bedroomed houses are aimed at North West Regional demand, which can never be met, not local housing need.

5.65 Wilmslow Neighbourhood Plan recognises the importance Wilmslow Centre as a retail destination and important leisure and recreation resource. WNP key aspiration A5 to develop a public realm strategy has been developed, adopted and shared with Cheshire East, a range of public events being put in place. The vision includes town centre improvements essential for town centre vitality, including Bank Square, Green Lane, Grove Street and Alderley Road, allowing Wilmslow to fulfil its part of Cheshire East's economy. Wilmslow Town Council will be looking to Cheshire East Council to support this initiative, including in discussion with the new mayoral authority.
