Local plan scoping consultation

Dear Sir/Madam
As a local resident, I strongly object to the proposed 291-hectare development across 12 adjoining parcels of land at Ashley.
This area is an important part of the Green Belt and plays a vital role in protecting the rural character of Ashley and maintaining the separation between Greater Manchester and Cheshire. It is open, productive countryside and should not be reclassified or treated as Grey Belt simply to enable large scale development.
Those of us who live locally know that Ashley and the surrounding roads are simply not equipped to cope with development on this scale. The village has very limited public transport and local services, meaning that any major new development would inevitably generate a substantial increase in car journeys. The surrounding road network is already constrained by narrow lanes, bridges and difficult access points.
There are also serious concerns about the impact on drainage, flooding, wildlife, farmland and the wider landscape, as well as the effect on the setting of listed and historic buildings in and around Ashley.
A development of this size would fundamentally change the character of the area and place unacceptable pressure on infrastructure that is already limited. I therefore urge the Council to retain full Green Belt protection for this land and remove the Ashley site from consideration for development.
