Housing is a critical issue, ensuring there is sufficient affordable and social housing particularly, given the erosion of housing stock over successive decades.
Our local plan must be truly local. We have a volume of brown field and redevelopment sites which must be tackled in favour of greenfield. Whilst it is clearly easier to just build a whole estate to hit targets, tackling brownfield and post-industrial spaces is a double win, creating housing whilst also removing unused, derelict spaces that can be dangerous eyesores. The plan should incentivise developers to flip these properties and spaces quickly, not hold onto them to wait for maximum profit.
Prioritising nature, habitat and climate change prevention has to become a priority over developer profits. Affordable housing, sustainable housing, preservation of our environment should be the key decision factors or we will lose accessible green spaces, biodiversity and unique selling points that bring new residents to our towns and villages.
Trade offs must be made for the future viability of our environment in Cheshire East, and our environment must be at the very top of that priority list.
