The respondent strongly objects to proposed development at Ashley, arguing that it would harm an important rural gap between built-up areas around Manchester and conflict with planning policy. They consider the land to be Green Belt rather than Grey Belt and raise concerns about the loss of valuable agricultural land. They argue that existing drainage, utilities, schools and health services are insufficient to support development of this scale. Further concerns include impacts on Ashley’s rural character, historic environment, village setting and Grade II listed buildings. The respondent believes brownfield sites should be prioritised for development before Green Belt land.
