I wish to comment on this important consultation. I am a longstanding Cheshire East resident in the Macclesfield area which is the focus of my comments. My comments are as follows:
1. I recognise the need and benefit from continued small scale development to meet primarily local needs.

3. It should be an overriding priority for the Plan to maintain the Adlington and other Green Belt areas and a clear physical distinction between Greater Manchester and Macclesfield.
4. The land put forward for development around Adlington in particular is prime agricultural land, no doubt with much wildlife and other environmental assets and in my opinion should be strongly protected and maintained. Britain needs farms and food production and the importance of this in Cheshire East should be emphasised as a central tenet of the plan.
5. I want to see an approach that puts the taking of agricultural and greenfield sites as a last resort. Cheshire should not become a “Manchester Overspill” zone. There is so much derelict and brownfield land in the Greater Manchester area (and no doubt in Cheshire East) that would benefit from regeneration. We should avoid the easy option and push back to protect the character of our area and ensure development priorities are focused there.
6. Macclesfield is very run down in places and the town as a whole needs investment and reinvigoration. Well planned developments that help bring the town centre back to life and focus on a thriving market town community should be a priority.
