Local plan scoping consultation

I would like to add my comments to the consultation on the new Local Plan.

I accept that we need more housing in Cheshire East, but I feel strongly that this must be built in the right locations and in the right way so it doesn’t compromise the health and wellbeing of the existing population.

In particular:

1. No building on peatland, which is so vital for storing carbon and for reducing flooding.
2. Prioritising brownfield sites and infill, rather than building on green belt and destroying irreplaceable habitats. We need green spaces (and wildlife corridors) to protect biodiversity, as well as the physical and mental health of the population.
3. Including a high proportion of truly affordable housing. Recent developments in the borough seem to have paid only lip service to this.
4. Accompanying new housing developments with new infrastructure, in the form of additional public transport, schools and health facilities. In many places, the existing services are already inadequate, without adding a whole load of extra demand.
