Local plan scoping consultation
Identifying and assessing sites
Respondent: Alexander Wilson
Representation Summary:
I strongly object to proposed development around Ashley and believe the Green Belt should continue to provide separation between Greater Manchester and Cheshire settlements. I am concerned about increased traffic and road safety in Hale, Altrincham, Ashley and surrounding villages, inadequate infrastructure, flood risk and the loss of productive farmland. I also believe future strategic infrastructure requirements, including potential rail development, should be considered before land is developed. I object to development affecting peatland around Lindow because of its environmental and water management importance, and to development around Mobberley station due to the constrained road network and existing traffic and parking problems.

Today I have read through your ‘New Local Plan’ on the website with the name ‘opus consult’ in the top left hand corner of it.
I live in Hale and have been a resident there for 16 years.
I’d like to raise my strong objection to the development around Ashley, namely the mapped areas of the Ashley Garden Village NE, NW, SE and SW Quadrants. The reason for this is the following:
the land is clearly green belt and, with other land, acts as a break between Greater Manchester and other conurbations
It feels quite selfish to develop on the edge of Cheshire East to cause problems for residents in neighbouring authorities and any proposal to tarmac this area does not look joined up with Greater Manchester local authorities. Housing in Timperley and Hale around the Thorley Lane area are already being developed for new housing with no change to roads or infrastructure (because there isn’t the room to build a new road to nowhere) so why add to the housing and traffic in Hale and Altrincham which is already very busy?
There must a flood risk of building houses so close to the River Bollin
I note that all the proposed development in Ashley is well clear of the house of [REDACTED] at the Tatton Estate office. The development of ‘into the wild’ seems like a plan to change countryside very near to Hale so that there is the case to develop the surround areas. We have small roads out through Hale village to Ashley, Mobberley and Knutsford and more parking problems and through traffic on pot holed roads is just going to make the experience of walkers, children and cyclists considerably less safe. As an experiment, I’d like you to either walk or cycle from Ashley to Hale. I don’t see how concreting fields makes this situation better for anyone other than vendors of the land
Protecting our farming land. From a food security point of view, I’d ask that you consider why giving up farmland for housing is the right choice.
HS2. The route for HS2 was around the M56. Taking cost problems out of the argument, infrastructure wise for the UK, HS2 is a good idea in my view. And following a motorway delivers a new train line with limited disruption for people. Surely the building of housing stops any possibly of joined up planning of HS2 in the future? Would you not be able to do a deal with Westminster to swap housing targets for infrastructure instead?
I’d also like to raise my objection to the developments around the peat bogs in Lindow and the development around Mobberley train station. Reasons being for this:
Lindow is special site that retains water. If you build on it, you’ll have more floods on places like the Carrs and Wilmslow. Please don't mess with nature.
The roads around Mobberley are tiny. It’s dangerous to drive through there now due to the cafe and associated parking problems at the Barnshaw Smithy. Why make the situation worse?
Many thanks for listening to my views and any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
