As the Local Plan progresses, the Trustees request that Cheshire East:
Recognise Haughton Recreational Ground as a significant environmental and community asset within Haughton Moss.
Ensure its Local Wildlife Site designation and supporting ecological evidence are fully reflected in the evidence base and policy framework.
Consider the cumulative effects of surrounding land-use changes on the field’s ecological function, landscape setting, hydrology and community value.
Recognise that the Parish Field’s significance extends beyond its physical boundary and is influenced by surrounding land.
Ensure future site assessments properly consider the field’s environmental sensitivities and its relationship with the wider Haughton Moss landscape.

Natural environment and accessible green spaces should be given significant weight in planning decisions due to their contribution to public health and wellbeing. Green spaces support physical activity, recreation, social interaction and healthier lifestyles, while access to nature can improve mental health, reduce stress, anxiety and social isolation, and strengthen community connections. Trees and vegetation also improve air quality, provide shade, reduce overheating and support sustainable drainage. Planning decisions should protect and enhance existing green infrastructure, avoiding loss or degradation. Planning decissions should consider the impact on existing ecological features that support healthy, sustainable and resilient communities.
