No peat should ever be extracted as peatlands are an irreplaceable habitat type and should be protected. Peatlands which are dried and used for extraction emit huge amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which fueks climate change and reukts in extreme weather. It is in the best interest of locals to leave peat in the ground and re-wet cheshire peatlands. This will help mitigate climate change, prevent flooding, help retain water in drought periods, and provide amazing habitat for wildlife.
