Mixed use developments should be located near to appropriate transport infrastructure hubs and not located in open countryside where transport infrastructure cannot absorb additional traffic.

The current call for sites map identifies significant development areas around the village of Bradfield Green. This village has poor infrastructure and is largely off grid for drainage and gas. In addition, the electricity network is intermittent and water pressure is low. Additional development in the area will place greater strain on already inadequate infrastructure. The new infrastructure involved in the NW Package is visibly crumbling and has done little to improve road capacity.

The sites shown on the Call for Sites map will be disastrous for biodiversity in and around Bradfield Green. Recent planning approvals failed to take in to consideration the cumulative impact on wildlife and habitats in the countryside area. This must not be overlooked in the SEA

Whilst there is support for renewable energy, the focus should be on buildings and the urban areas, such as car parks, etc. The loss of open countryside impacts on important food production areas and whilst there are suggestions that large scale solar farms are good for biodiversity, this is questionable and there is research to the contrary

If recent decisions are anything to go by, the Council has failed to understand its communities and indeed the impact and scale of development. Village status should be protected and the urban sprawl of towns like Crewe must be properly managed with the focus on appropriate transport hubs and no open countryside

Engaging with site promoters is one thing, engaging with the communities affected by proposals is another and the Council must be more proactive.
