There is a strong link between health inequalities and food insecurity (FI). FI relates to the inability to afford, access and acquire nutritionally adequate & safe to consume food. It can result in diets based on low-cost, less nutritious ultra processed (UPF) or high fat, salt, sugar (HFSS) food items. Contributing to a greater risk of diet-related ill health. The Food Foundation (2025) suggest 13.5% of households across Cheshire East face a high risk of FI. Data collected by the Food Alliance (May 2026) suggests over 8,500 individuals regularly rely on community food projects (potentially a proxy for FI)

We need to be thinking about Food Insecurity and our ability to feed ourselves (obviously within the local restrictions of land available, and what can be grown sustainability and in a way that is good for the environment. .

Deprivation can be linked to food insecurity. Analysis by The Food Foundation (2025) suggests the number of Cheshire East (CE) residents at risk of high level of food insecurity could be as high as 13.5%. Locally the Food Alliance estimate over 8,500 individuals regularly rely on community food projects (a proxy to food insecurity).
