Macclesfield Town Council recognises increased housing needs and considers Macclesfield capable of accommodating significant sustainable growth. It prioritises brownfield, underused and town-centre sites before Green Belt release, supporting higher-density housing and potential partial redevelopment of Duke Street and Churchill Way car parks. The Council calls for genuinely affordable, energy-efficient housing, stronger emphasis on actual housing delivery and infrastructure provided alongside development. Where Green Belt release is necessary, sustainable Grey Belt options should be considered. Development should protect Macclesfield’s character, heritage, landscape and biodiversity, improve town-centre pedestrian safety and ensure meaningful involvement of the Town Council and local residents.
