In Macclesfield there are a lot of old mills that are being left to go derelict. Will Cheshire East prioritise a way of getting these back into use to provide much needed housing and to protect the town's heritage.

Why isn't every new house that is built fitted with solar panels and a heat pump?
Could existing building eg. supermarkets, garages and council buildings also be fitted with solar panels?

With the climate crisis, food security issues and biodiversity loss all wildlife sites and farmland should be classed as key assets. Development in the countryside should only be carried out as a last resort

This sounds like National Decision making will over-rule any local concerns. How does this fit in with the new administration's statement that they want to devolve power away from Westminster. It sounds like local people will have no say.

Do we need this level of development and is it sustainable in terms of water and other key resources? Do we have the infrastructure in place for a large amount of development and who will build the hospitals and other infrastructure required?
What about other key factors like flooding?

Will Cheshire East compile a list of brownfield sites first and identify how many houses they can supply before any other sites are assessed?
I am extremely concerned about the classification of green belt as grey belt. At the moment it seems that developers are free to classify any green belt land as grey belt on their applications. Who will assess this? There should be rigorous criteria assessed by someone independent.
How will Cheshire East ensure appropriate development densities ie. ensuring a majority of sites provide affordable housing rather than 5 bed homes, maximising developer's profits

It feels like this is very weighted towards landowners and developers. With protections for green belt reduced this increases the risk of speculative proposals for development on green belt sites.
Landowners can submit their sites for development looking to make a lot of money.
I would like to know how Cheshire East will make sure that local people are heard and not dismissed if they oppose development on a site. Who is assessing the sites for suitability and do they have a vested interest?
How will Cheshire East ensure that only suitable sites are developed?

I would like to see a plan for regeneration of town centres and included in that a plan for how Cheshire East will get the empty building in town centres back into use for housing rather than developing green belt land

The vision for the local plan should include a vision for how Cheshire East will contribute towards mitigating against the climate crisis and how our farmland contributes to UK food security. It should also make environmental protections and avoiding biodiversity loss key factors when making decisions.
I am very concerned about climate breakdown therefore any sites proposed for development which contain large stores of carbon should be automatically dismissed. This should include peat bogs and ancient woodland.
Farmland is vital to UK food security and this should also be a key factor in decision making
