It's welcome to see the link between Agriculture and food insecurity set out in the 2024 consultation. But there's no specific reference to horticulture and food growing. In this context there seems to be no reference to water supply.
There's no reference to food insecurity (which is wider than food poverty), but reference to fuel poverty.
There's no reference to healthy eating, nutrition, healthy weight and the impact / consequences of planning.

Could this support Food security - through assessing the feasibility of urban growing (including vertical growing). The existing Local Plan Policy SC 3Health and Well-Being promotes the role of communal growing spaces including allotments, garden plots within developments, small scale agriculture and farmers' markets. This could be an opportunity to realise this aspiration.

Re 4.16 - Global conflict and climate change is having a negative effect on our ability to feed ourselves. In the context of Food Security is data on how much of this agricultural land is used to produce - rear or grow - food and based on future population figures who much will be needed in the future and of there are potential gaps what can we do to close them. There is reference to food production / security in both C & W Local Nature Recovery Strategy and Sustainable & Inclusive Economic Strategy, but there's no detail.

As part of any housing considerations there needs to be provision for individual and community growing, by providing garden or allotment spaces. This could support household level food security.

The document references the importance of agriculture in terms of the volume of those employed (higher than the figure England). In the context of Food Security what needs to be done to ensure this is viable as possible. There is reference to food production / security in both Cheshire and Warrington Local Nature Recovery Strategy and Cheshire and Warrington Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Strategy.

5.88 in this context how can we address commercial food waste – and specifically this could lead to a reduction in food insecurity. There are well established models where community food projects can access surplus food (not waste food) either directly or through redistribution charities such as Fareshare. But can we create the conditions locally working with WRAP or others so smaller retailers, other out of home food provision, plus agriculture and horticulture can contribute. Support the Colthard agreement and UN sustainability goals.

Access to healthy, affordable food and the link to health seem to missing from this section despite ‘Planning Healthier Environments’ workshop taking place in November 2025 and February 2026 which looked at how food could be linked to healthier places.
