I am writing with regard to the proposal to enable a large number of houses to be built on green belt and agricultural land in the small hamlet of Ashley in Cheshire. I have a local interest - I live in Bowdon about 2 miles away.
It is vital to retain green belt land generally and this area in particular which is the first and last agricultural land and countryside bordering the Manchester conurbation. This has always been farmland/green belt and therefore cannot be built on.
Ashley is currently a small village with no infrastructure or facilities to support additional housing. The current train services are inadequate for anything other than serving a small rural community.
Any such development would adversely impact on the historic Tatton estate - its hedgerows, fields, woodlands and wildlife.
In summary a housing development in the Ashley area would be catastrophic for the immediate vicinity for reasons outlined above and in addition would contribute to even more congestion in the surrounding areas.
It should be rejected out of hand.
