Representation Summary:
This representation strongly objects to further housing development around Haslington, arguing that the village has already experienced significant growth without corresponding investment in infrastructure. I strongly object to further housing development in and around Haslington for the following reasons.
The village has already experienced substantial growth since 2021 without any further addition to the infrastructure. If further housing is to be considered Cheshire East Council should demonstrate adequate capacity in local schools, NHS services, roads, drainage and sewage.
Traffic assessments must reflect conditions on Crewe Road and the bottleneck that is Crewe Green Roundabout. Presently the traffic queues through the village at peak times can stretch from the roundabout to Primrose Avenue. A similar traffic queue forms on the Haslington by-pass, the main route from the M6 J16 into Crewe. Developments along Sydney Road have already increased the traffic hugely at this roundabout.
With the development of greenbelt fields around the village Haslington will become joined to Crewe and thereby lose it's village status. Suitable brownfield land should be prioritised.
New development should not increase flood risk and must protect green spaces, wildlife and countryside, with existing, approved and proposed developments assessed alongside further housing growth.
Considerable loss of arable and pastoral farmland, and thereby food security, in a time of increased international tension.
