The proposed 291-hectare development at Ashley should be rejected as it comprises high-performing Green Belt, not Grey Belt. The site plays a vital role in preventing urban sprawl, preserving the countryside gap between Greater Manchester and Cheshire, and protecting productive farmland. Ashley is an unsustainable location for development due to its limited services, lack of a bus network, constrained transport links and narrow bridge crossings. Development on this scale would place unacceptable pressure on traffic, infrastructure and drainage, while harming protected landscapes, wildlife habitats and the setting of numerous listed buildings. Green Belt protection should be retained.
