The infrastructure is at breaking point. Many of the main roads in the area become gridlocked twice a day as more houses are built. The entire Middlewich Road, Crewe to Nantwich is very slow from 15.00 daily. To add potentially thousands of car journeys to this route with the housing around the Leighton Hospital site is clearly unsustainable and polluting. The new hospital will not be big enough before it is opened. This scenario is repeated across the borough. Traffic on Old Mill Road, Sandbach to the M6 already backs up through town and onto the bypass.

The green gap between communities needs to be protected. Many such gaps have already been built upon - Shavington is now almost joined with Gresty, Wybunbury and the A500 and this sort of development is being repeated across the borough. Many productive farms around Congleton, Nantwich and Sandbach have already been built upon seriously affecting national food production. Current policy seems to be to build a bypass larger than needed, then infill the gap with housing and large industrial units that are automated with few employees.

Priority must be given to developing on urban and brownfield sites. Current pressure to build on green field sites is very short sighted as it directly affects UK food security in an increasingly turbulent economic and political environment.
More first time buyers homes and homes for the elderly are needed to ease the demand on the housing ladder.
