Following the last plan, there has been significant urban sprawl for example around Macclesfield and Congleton, the new local plan must strongly demonstrate that CEC acknowledges its duty to protect and respect the residual Green Belt and therefore should ensure that Brownfield sites are prioritised and maximised efficiently to deliver the new homes required rather than allowing further loss of green belt.
It would be helpful if an audit of all brownfield sites was undertaken and this used as a starting point.
The new term 'Grey Belt' is open to debate and needs a clear local definition in the plan

There is an opportunity in the new local plan to include housing requirements with respect to renewable energy and appropriate levels of insulation to reduce heating costs, specifically on the 'starter homes' / smaller family homes.

The Green Belt protects the landscape and is an important buffer and visual transition with open countryside. Where the land is topographically elevated its support of the geographical character of many of our villages and towns across East Cheshire is increased and any change of boundaries in these areas leading to developments would be particularly dominant, for example the 'offered land' on Blakelow Rd, Macclesfield, sits above the town to the east, development here would have a significant and negative visual impact on the landscape and Macclesfield character.
The new plan must include protection for these issues
