Developing this site severs critical wildlife corridors used by protected species. It destroys the physical hedgerow "highways" and insect habitats bats need for hunting. Furthermore, high-intensity artificial lighting will create an impassable barrier for light-sensitive wildlife. This development permanently fractures the ancient clough woodland ecosystem that links central village habitats to broader regional networks.The proposed Smith Lane development will destroy irreplaceable ancient hedgerows and specialized clay soil networks dating back centuries.
