I wish to emphasise the need only to build housing where it is most needed and at the price level and size that is sustainable and genuinely affordable – including social housing. Not to maximise profits for the developers. I would like to see the evidence on which the 146% increase in housing required is based. What are the assumptions this is based on? Is it actually affordable and sustainable in light of the crisis on the planet right now? Should those assumptions be challenged in light of the economic, climate and environmental crisis we are facing?

Priority must be given to preserving greenbelt land, and other environmentally important sites, such as lowland peatbogs, unspoilt grasslands and ancient woodland. These are irreplaceable and essential for the preservation and restoration of biodiversity against the degradation that is threatening our wildlife, and the sustainability of our food production that depends on it. The role of the natural environment in storing carbon as well as the value of the access to the nature in our wellbeing must be given higher recognition.
