Local plan scoping consultation

We strongly oppose the potential development of the Green Belt land between Blakelow Road and Buxton Old Road.

This is open, elevated land which forms a clear and important transition between the built-up area of Macclesfield and the countryside beyond. Housing here would permanently change the landscape and character of this part of Macclesfield and extend development further into the countryside.

I recognise the need for new homes, but believe brownfield, previously developed and less environmentally sensitive sites should be prioritised before valuable Green Belt such as this is lost.

If this site is considered further, I urge the Council to give proper weight to its Green Belt function, landscape and visual impact, local wildlife and biodiversity, and the effect additional development would have on surrounding roads and infrastructure.

Macclesfield's relationship with the surrounding countryside is a fundamental part of its character. Once Green Belt like this is developed, that loss is permanent, and I strongly believe this land should remain protected.
