Local plan scoping consultation

I am writing to submit my comments regarding the scope of the new Cheshire East Local Plan, focusing specifically on the real, everyday needs of residents and the economic vitality of Alsager.

First, the new Local Plan must prioritise the enhancement and protection of local community services. Housing growth cannot happen in isolation. Future allocations must be directly tied to the expansion of local healthcare access, community spaces, and educational facilities so that existing and new residents are fully supported close to home.

Second, the plan must adopt a proactive strategy for reviving and supporting our high street. Rather than treating Alsager town centre as a secondary consideration, the planning framework should actively encourage a diverse mix of retail, hospitality, and independent businesses, not more vape shops, barbers or other questionable ''businesses". It should make it easier for high street shops to open and thrive by introducing flexible planning uses, properly support the local market, and improving the public realm to attract footfall.

Third, local infrastructure must make access to these services easy and sustainable. Walking, cycling, and public transport links between residential areas and town centers need explicit backing and investment within the plan to ensure our high street becomes and remains vibrant, accessible destinations for everyone in the Alsager community.
