Representation Summary:
The respondents strongly object to the proposed housing development around Ashley, arguing that the area provides an important Green Belt buffer between Hale, Knutsford and Mobberley and helps prevent urban sprawl. They highlight the site’s value as a wildlife habitat and ecological corridor, as well as its importance as high-quality agricultural land that contributes to food security. Concerns are also raised about the cumulative loss of farmland to previous developments and infrastructure projects. The respondents note historic flooding issues linked to changes in the local water table and believe further development could exacerbate flood risks. They urge the Council to protect these important open green spaces.

With regard to the housing proposals for Ashley, Cheshire, we would like to place on record our strong objections to these on the following grounds:-
The area around Ashley provides a much needed green buffer between Hale, Knutsford and Mobberley.
The land is a wild life haven and corridor.
The land included in the proposal is top tier farmland which should be preserved to protect our national ability to feed ourselves. Once lost it cannot be replaced. Much valuable land in the area has already been lost over the years, to Manchester Airport, to Housing, and to general infrastructure. Change comes to areas both directly and indirectly, as a result of development. Strong protection is needed against urban sprawl and the consequences.
When the M56 was built, the weight of the motorway changed the water table in Ashley and other areas, leading to flooding where it had never been a problem previously.
Our climate is changing, and we need to take care about adding to the problems this brings. Green open spaces are valuable and needed.
