The Local Plan should prioritise the preservation of agricultural land, whether currently farmed or not, to provide food security for the country, especially with the threat of future conflicts and climate change. More housing requires more food producing land. Once land becomes urban and covered in concrete, it will never go back to agriculture. Remote rural communities lack the infrastructure of a town or village. Many hamlets lack mains sewerage, mains gas, pavements, street lighting, shops, schools or any kind of public transport. They would be unsuitable for housing estates without massive urbanisation.
