Local plan scoping consultation

My comments are in relation to the sites put forward to the north, south and west of Whirley Road.
These sites are entirely unsuitable for further housing supply, being located on a narrow semi-rural lane. Whirley Road and Whirley Lane already face significant traffic issues with vehicles using these roads as a cut-through to avoid congestion on Chelford Road, which has been caused by increase in domestic developments in the area, and parents using the roads to drop off children at Whirley Primary School. During school hours this area is extremely congested and often quite dangerous, with roads almost completely being blocked with parked cars, and limited visibility crossing roads. I often struggle to walk down Whirley Road during school drop off and pick up, and avoid driving down this area entirely as I have been stuck due to double-parking on many occasions. There are no alternative routes for access to these proposed sites, without residents having to use these small roads which are already extremely busy and unsuitable to significant increase in traffic flow. There is no alternative access to main roads such as Chelford Road from these proposed sites.

It should also be noted that part of the land put forward is directly under electricity pylons, which is unsuitable for domestic building due to health and safety reasons.

Furthermore, it should be noted that Whirley is a small semi-rural community, and building within this area would be extremely harmful to the local farming community (most of this land is working farmland), biodiversity (due to being home to owls, bats, newts), equestrian facilities, and the overall sense of community in this quiet hamlet.

Whirley is on the outskirts of Macclesfield, surrounded by greenbelt. Building on these proposed sites would be contributing to urban sprawl, which greenbelt classification is supposed to protect against, as it would mean unbroken domestic land flowing from the centre of Macclesfield with no breaks for greenbelt or open green space.

Whirley Primary School is already oversubscribed, with many children in and around Whirley/Greenside not being allocated a place at the school this academic year. This would only be exacerbated with additional building of homes around this area, with no additional educational infrastructure proposed.

The above comments should also be considered in regard to the site put forward to the north of Birtles Road, as all of the above comments are applicable to this site also.
