As a cyclist I am very keen on Active Travel. But I have concerns around safety, specifically the lack of designated cycle lanes and the general acceptance of the speed of vehicles at 30mph instead of the much better and safer speed limit of 20mph which should be mandatory in all built up areas. Vehicles have become wider, heavier and much quicker over time and are a serious threat to cyclists and pedestrians alike. Statistics have shown that you are more likely to survive an accident with vehicle travelling at 20mph than you are with one travelling at 30mph.
