Objection to development on the Adlington/Belport site

Brownfield sites MUST be used first!

It’s green belt. Green belt was designated to ensure that towns did not sprawl into one another and that principle must be upheld. The development of houses in the Adlington area on the Belport site directly goes against that principle. It attaches to Bollington, sprawling towards Poynton.

It’s a large area of productive farmland not to mention the livelihoods affected. Belport has already blighted livelihoods in that area. It would be criminal for further damage to be inflicted

Important wild life habitats. This area is on the fringes of a National Park and is important in its own right for ancient woodlands, wildlife and farming because of being an estate that has been in the same hands for hundreds of years leading to a continuity of management methods. Wildlife in this country has become increasingly depleted and under threat from climate change and from human activity. This area is an important pocket for wildlife and for ‘breathing space’ for people in the area for their health and well being. A development in the Belport/Adlington area would compromise that greatly.

No infrastructure. The local towns and villages already have crowded medical facilities because of existing demand. Further demand would totally overwhelm it. There doesn’t seem to be any provision suggested for GPs, schools etc or further input into Macclesfield hospital. Water tankers are often seen around Macclesfield as there are obviously intermittent water supply problems. The roads, particularly from Poynton to Macclesfield are frequently already under great pressure from the volume of existing traffic, nor are the other roads maintained in good order with existing traffic. What would additional traffic do to them. Where would the money come from for all of these things? The owners of the land, Belport? I think not!

A complete desecration of the place we chose to live because it’s green belt and supposed to be protected.
