The draft Local Plan pulls in two different directions. It promises to protect Cheshire East’s countryside, landscapes, biodiversity, soils and best agricultural land, while also supporting larger renewable-energy schemes without explaining how conflicts should be resolved. Renewable energy is important, but schemes must be built in the right places. The Plan should prioritise brownfield land, rooftops, car parks and other built-up areas before productive farmland and open countryside. Climate action should support environmental protection, not be used to justify unnecessary harm to valued landscapes, food-producing land and natural assets.
