Affordable housing

Affordable housing should be aimed at first time buyers or those on low incomes in locations close to amenities and public transport not built on a large estate of 4,5 and 6 bed houses on green belt on the outskirts of town. They should be truly affordable i.e. less than £200K and not tied in with some complicated shared ownership scheme, with rising rent costs, unpredictable service charges and hidden costs when attempting to sell. Wilmslow currently has 400+ houses for sale and only approx 30 under £200K!

Why are some of the sites that were shown on the last local plan, with planning permission, still undeveloped? Some are brownfield sites which should be prioritised before 'grey' and greenbelt is considered. CEC should approach owners of empty mills and vacant office blocks and encourage development of these into 1/2 bed apartments, where there is truly a shortage as evidenced by the 10,000 plus on the Cheshire Home Choice register. Development of large estates of 3/4/5 bed houses outside of towns should be rejected until the current demand for social housing is met.

I accept there is a housing shortage but not of 3,4,5 and 6 bed houses in an location inaccessible without a car i.e. a field in the countryside! What is needed is 1 and 2 bed houses/apartments in locations close to amenities and public transport. CEC should prioritise and encourage developments on brownfield sites or repurposed buildings and not allow development on greenbelt whatsoever.
