We agree that "the borough contains many attractive locations for people to live in, work in or visit, with its transport links making it easy to travel to and from other parts of the country."

Registered Parks and Gardens and other designed historic designed landscapes that are non-designated heritage assets contribute significantly to making Cheshire East an attractive place to live, work and play. It is therefore vital that the new Plan protects them as irreplaceable historic, economic, recreational, health, wellbeing, natural environment and climate change assets.

Tatton Park (and Jodrell Bank) are singled out as importnat tourist destinations. The pressure on Tatton is such that Knutsford Entrance has been closed "for the foreseeable future" due to the impact of visitors on deer and the risk to both prior to, and during the rutting season. More housing in Knutsford will increase pressure on this popular resource where degradation of the historic landscape and habitat is already an issue.

We appreciate the statements made in sections 5.10 and 5.11, however:-

We wish to register our deep concern at the potential impact on Registered Parks and Gardens of some of the sites submitted.

Two of the development sites put forward encompass Crewe Hall and Tabley House and their estate settings. Other sites for development are situated on the boundaries and within the setting of Adlington Hall, Peover Hall, Tatton Park and West Park. These are irreplaceable heritage assets that should not be compromised. Any permitted development must comply with NPPF 2026, Section 20. Conserving and enhancing the historic environment.

We look forward to liaising with officers regarding the development of the Local List of non-designated heritage assets following adoption of the Heritage and Local List SPD.

These are irreplaceable historic assets for which we are custodians. They are important in providing the sense of place missing from so much new development.
