First Draft Local List Supplementary Planning Document

Representation ID: 26

Received: 10/06/2025

Respondent: Mrs Sylvia Chaplin

Representation Summary:

The wording needs strengthening here. The current trend to replace hedges and traditional post-and-rail split-paling fences with close-boarded fencing is often completed without reference to the LPA, even in conservation areas. Where the boundary treatment is considered integral to the appreciation of the significance of the heritage asset, Article 4 Directions should be applied and enforced. ‘Walls, fences and railings are often crucial to a building's character. In such cases the listing will specify the need to seek permission from the LPA for alterations to the boundary features’.
